    Back Door

When I look out my back door...
I hear the voice of an outraged woman...
I see squad cars all lined in a row...
The sway of the trees...violence in the wind...
The silence never to be heard again...
My mind races with questions...what if this...what if that...
When I look out my back door.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
