Black Woman, Stand Up!

Black Woman, Stand Up!

Black Woman,
You are more than the curvaceous body you own
You are more than the melodic inconsistencies of your tone
You are more than adventurous sex and a good time
You are more than anything I can say in this rhyme;

Black Woman,
You are more than mysterious style and overwhelming grace
You are more than the learned smile plastered on your face
You are more than what they call you
You are more than what they’ve reduced you to;

Black Woman
You are more than a partner
You are more than a talker
You are more than a mother and a wife
You are more than a side show to his plight;

Black Woman,
You are more than what you display
You are more than the whispers they say
You are more than just some man’s baby mama
You are more than the stank of all that drama;

Black Woman,
You are culturally proud and immensely sensitive
You are strong in your convictions and your will to live
You are the song of our struggle and voice of reason
You are the wind that exists through all seasons;

Black Woman,
I’m calling on you with a loudly silent plea;
Black Woman
It’s time for you to become what you should be;
Black Woman,
I’m calling on you to make demands;
Black Woman,
It’s your turn to show the world where you stand!

Black Woman, Stand Up!
Stand up, Black Woman
Black Woman, Stand UP!
