BORN IN BABYLON

BORN IN BABYLON

Born in Babylon, and shining lights
Disguised the pale and gloom of nights.
Alone I wandered all around,
And peace was no where to be found.

Born in Babylon, there's laughter there,
But the soul's left empty and hollow--bare!
Where is Babylon, where I was born?
Where Night is loved, God put to scorn?

It's this old world,
With all it's fears--
It's hollow laughter,
It's wail and tears!

But wonder, oh! Such wonder, this!
My soul can know of Heaven's kiss!
Babylon I leave behind!
My heart is changed to different kind!

Born of Heaven, now I'm free!
Free at last, to  worship Thee!
Born of Your Mercy, from above!
Born by Your Blood, born by Your Love!

And I look back to Babylon,
And see its frightful woes roll on!

But great Salvation Christ does give!
Born of Him, I'm born to  live!

This is an incredible poem that I really enjoyed reading!!! Jesus is the great I AM. He can be whatever we need Him to be and He is able to do whatever we need Him to do. He can even lift us out of bondage and set us FREE; and to be FREE in Jesus is to be FREE INDEED!!! Thanks for sharing such a fantastic piece of art. You are a great poet!!! Keep writing and be blessed!!!

Thank you so very much! I wrote this 52 years ago, when I first came out of the Dark into Christ's marvelous Light! What a lovely wake-up gift this morning!

I was also born in babylon. I have known the darkness and emptyness of all this world offers. I also have left it all behind and have been born in the Light of Jesus. What a beautiful difference

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
