Conquering Addiction
I realized today my addiction was you--
Alcohol used just to cope.
A shackle you’ve been on these ankles of mine.
Skiing a treacherous slope,
The trail was ungroomed and the fetters from you
Caused me to stumble and fall.
Aware as I was you were sapping my strength,
Still I would answer your call.
And taking came natural. It's all that you know.
Giving you never have learned.
And when you had plundered each cent you could get,
Wicked tart heart of yours turned.
You’re sinking the man who once fed you his soul
Hunger of yours to placate.
On reaching the bottom, I'll find who I am,
Master I am of my fate.
Your shackles removed I will skip, ski and run;
Discovering my own self-worth.
And as you sink deep in this tomb you now dig,
Jealously watch my rebirth!
Your shackles removed I will skip, ski and run;
Discovering my own self-worth.
And as you sink deep in this tomb you now dig,
Jealously watch my rebirth!
