Self-Imposed Solitary Confinement
“You won’t catch me ‘til I’m dead!
I’m commitment free!”
Selfishly he always fled
Responsibility.
No one there to share his soul.
No one to disagree.
Rode, but did not pay the toll.
Fun without the fee.
Many chased the running man.
Racing was in vain.
He ran as long as one man can
Through the sun and rain.
He wore a chain of broken hearts--
Wore it as his mane.
Energy of youth departs.
With no pain, no gain.
Shallow waters of his life
Now are on the wane.
No one there to call his wife
On the crazy train.
Choice he made for solitude
Once had seemed so sane.
Years have changed his attitude.
Lone he will remain.
Broken hearts will chase no more.
All have left the race.
Distanced, they could not adore
Through the time and space.
Settled down with lesser men
Caught at slower pace.
Solitary denizen
Left alone to face
His final time and space.
