Crash onto Life

I was laying there in pain, feeling every second go by.
With only the walls around me, and my head towards the sky.
Trying to breath it all in, even the silence of the room.
It's a hyperventilating loneliness, that strongly consumes.

I was trying so hard, thinking, just keep your eyes wide.
I kept praying for an angel, "Please don't let me die!"
I needed some one's help, to make me believe I could grow old.
I know it was a desperate move that made me lose all control.

It was a crash of bad decisions, that made that quick turn.
Sadly, I had to spin off the road, before I could learn.
I rolled into a curve, until I flipped back to the road.
That's where I had come to a rest, on my door I was told.

Next thing I remember, is climbing out towards the stars.
Seems only right now, it was the only way out of the car.
It had been a gravel road, where I had to hit my rock bottom.
Must be poetic justice to an empty chapter I wish forgotten.

I'm not saying that I am not thankful and I'm glad I wrecked.
But, looking back on it now, I know I needed to be checked.
I was so far from good that all the hope had escaped me.
Your choices, I know now, need to be what makes you happy.

I urge you to listen to and follow what your heart tells you.
To pay attention to it and the special ones that surround you.
To seek goodness in yourself and the harmony that it provides.
Life is a precious gift, and to be happy is to be alive.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
