Cry With Me

Poem Commentary

Inspired by a little girl, I played a part in removing her from a damaged and dangerous home.  I took her out of the worst possible situation, and away from the only person she has ever loved, her mommy, who repetedly chose drugs and men over this beautiful perfect little girl.  Exactly the way an officer did in my life.  This is a colision of choices.  I choose to be a police officer, and now I am witness to my childhood being lived by so many little children.

Cry With Me

Who will cry for  me

Scared and alone?

Who will cry for me

When mom’s not home?

Who will cry for me

When I cry myself to sleep?

Who will cry for me

When I have nothing real to keep?

Who will cry for me

Still learning how to cry?

Who will cry for me

When I am screaming out why?

Who will cry for me

Watching death rear its head?

Who will cry for me

When she can’t put me to bed?

Who will cry for me

When officers take control?

Who will cry for me

While I pay their toll?

Who will cry for me

When I can’t forget this day?

Who will cry for me

While I try to find my way?

Who will cry for me

Beautiful perfect little girl?

I know right now it may seem the sun will never shine.

Believe me when I say the path you walk used to be mine.

And,

I will cry for you

You will not be alone.

I will cry for you

When no one is home.

I will cry for you

When you cry yourself to sleep.

I will cry for you

Tears will puddle at our feet.

I will cry for you

I will hold you and cry.

I will cry for you

We may never answer why.

I will cry for you

Regardless of the uniform I wear.

I will cry for you

As the end of this is near.

Please understand that this has to be done

Someday I pray you will see that today, you’ve  won.

You stop being a victim the moment you survive

For strength, look deep inside.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
