Daddy
I reached dowv and touched his chestRigid and cold under his Western shirt
Pearl snaps gleaming
I'd never felt such ice
Emanate from a living person
Suddenly he was frozen wood
His hair was perfect as always
"Arapahoes don't gray much" he'd told us
I ran my fingers through it
Tousled and then rearranged it
Playfully I whispered in his ear
"I messed up your hair,Daddy"
Never allowed to touch it
He couldn't complain now
I placed my business card in his front shirt pocket
Kissed his icy forehead
Said "I love you" one more time
And then the lid was closed..........
