    DISDAIN

    DISDAIN

    I disdain the past;
    Lingering hateful thoughts
    Conferring me to errors great
    As the serpent’s sin.

    I disdain this moment;
    Wishing flying time consume
    The pain of today that severe
    My aching brain

    I disdain tomorrow;
    Uncertain, uncontrollable,
    Evoking a tinge of hope,
    Trumpeting torrents of despair.

    I disdain love;
    Temporal flickers of cheer,
    A thousand sadness, a million fears
    Jostling in my soul.

    Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
