Dreams just aren't enough

Poem Commentary

Written after a cruise where I met a girl who finally helped me get over my first love.

Dreams just aren't enough

Watching you, whether you know it or not
Sleeping alone just rips me apart
Your smile, your walk, your little green dress
I wish there was a button I could press
To bring you back here in my arms
I found that button, then I hear the alarm

As I drift away with memories of you
There's nothing I would rather do
Than give you a kiss goodnight
I will in my sleep, but it’s not right

Bring me to the world where my life is perfect
Bring me to the world where we can fly
Please, just bring me back to the day
Where you and I touched the sky
I see you every night, but sometimes dreams just aren’t enough

I want to feel your lips on my skin
Over the railing of the ship, how perfect that had been
Who knew one week could break me down
After all, I told myself I would never frown
I guess lust does some crazy things
But I know what tonight is gunna bring

As I drift away with memories of you
There's nothing I would rather do
Than give you a kiss goodnight
I will in my sleep, but it’s not right

Bring me to the world where my life is perfect
Bring me to the world where we can fly
Please, just bring me back to the day
Where you and I touched the sky
I see you every night, but sometimes dreams just aren’t enough

Don’t go, please don’t go
I see you right now I know
Please, fucking please don’t go
Dreams, they melt away like snow
So I guess sometimes they just aren’t enough.
