Fight or Flight

Poem Commentary

Love is more toxin than peace when the heart meets a felon and liar...It steals your reason and to see...you only have to make yourself a bit blinder.

Fight or Flight

I hear the night creep up like a ghost,
The darkness is a friend, filled with strange, malignant hopes,
that have a pretty cover, but heavy with toxins within.
What kind of fool am I to reach out to you again?

A song plays in the background, Silverspring and you,
make for another nightmare and numerous tears too.
How does one forget the hope required to breathe
or walk away from a love that brings you too your knees?

In prayer or indecision for everything that's wrong.
Have another drink and play one more sad song,

Seeing RED. This heart is angry,a burning stone too hard to break.
Looking in the distance, you approach I start too shake.
One soft word raises tears, I turn my face away...
You never meant for me to hurt or look at you that way.

So can your will be spoken to existance, by sheer persistant words.
Why do you use that L word, say you miss me, then treat me like dirt?
Suddenly quicksand surrounds me and swallows this fragile world...
You grasp as I am leaving, I grab hold, just this silly girl!

Alone now by the river, sun shining through an orange sky,
hiding from the world that always asks me why.
They know I have more brain cells than I in present use...
Why do you still embrace this? It has turned into abuse.

DWI,Teary eyes, how is that for an answer, but the alcohol does not work.
Like a moth to a chemical fire, fly there for comfort and dessert.
A holey walls ascends, only darkness weasels through...
At the end of the weary hallway, of life, I still want you.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
