Flowers in a vase

Flowers in a vase

You are growing beautiful from the ground
The sun brings you warmth and the air brings you life
Everyone can see you're beautiful
So they cut you down and stick you in a vase to wait
You see the sun from a window but cannot feel its warmth
The air is stale and suffocating
You're days are numbered as your petals fall
They don't see the beauty they have taken away
You are nothing to them now
You are growing beautiful from the ground
The sun brings you warmth and the air brings you life
Everyone can see you're beautiful
So they cut you down and stick you in a vase to wait
You see the sun from a window but cannot feel its warmth
The air is stale and suffocating
You're days are numbered as your petals fall
They don't see the beauty they have taken away
You are nothing to them now

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
