Received freely from up above
It is your greatest weapon,
Helping to express your love

It can lead you through the darkness
Back into the light of day
It picks your heart up off the floor
Helps you find just the words to say

The power this measure gives you
Must forever be seen in awe,
For it is only in the human heart
Where you can truly build a wall

To love someone with all your heart
It is a wonder to behold
But to forgive them at their weakest
Is a treasure more pure than gold

It doesn't mean you must forget
Whatever wrong they've done
But you must not hold against them
The things that cannot be undone

This act can't be just spoken
It is a gift your heart performs
Like a glance upon a baby's face
And the way that your heart warms

It is a gift we all received
From our Father up above
Who gave His only Son for us,
A touching way to show His love

Not only is this honor given,
Remember, it can be received
When you must ask someone for it
It can bring you to your knees

When forgiveness is bestowed upon you
Your guilt and pain taken away
Hold tight, never disregard it
Don't let your gratefulness be swayed

Lastly, you must not be fearful
And you should not be afraid
To grant someone forgiveness
When at your feet the request is laid

While love is your greatest gift,
