dancing with a poet

either solo dance or partners...collaborative writing, either responsive poems or line to line wordplay.

my partner says, "Make it sweet.."

Re: dancing with a poet

take the lead

I've learned to softly sing along
to all the best romantic songs
but there has never been a chance
for my small feet to learn to dance

the wrong partners seem to come and go
I've stepped on all their clumsy toes
it will take a stronger man to lead
the fluid dance of grace in me

I will say I've two left feet
to keep me safely in my seat
declining all unsought advance
claim I don't know how to dance

but this deception grows so old
and the deepest truth wants to be told
the secret lying on my lips
the magic rhythm of my hips

on the dance floor, hand in hand
make me move to your command
your hand pressed to my heated skin
lets me move against your sin

bare bronzed arms at shoulder height
soft hands that beckon and invite
there's a challenge in my eyes
and passion now is undisguised

move with intention in my space
as the music slows the tempo's pace
through the room we dip and glide
in this dance so long denied

our desire, so long restrained
in love comes finally unchained
eyes and lips and bodies find
hearts that burn but do not bind

these perfect steps I always knew
but saved them all for only you
my heart will ever thus attest
I will be your last conquest

Re: dancing with a poet

But The We Danced

I avoided her all night

The way she peered at me

with those wonderous about eyes

Avoided the way those thighs hypnotized

She knew I was watching, and I had my head

but then we danced

From across the room, her radula raged

A ballet so delicate, wet..... hot

She knew what I was thinking

We knew I was distraught

I only lost my head for a minute

I think that was enough

but then we danced

The rhythm, the melody

The way she was dancing

A great compulsion

What did she want?

I wanted to move

But it felt to be a great complicity

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t

She’s getting closer

What pulse in organs I didn’t know I had

I had to, I have to, I want to

And then we danced

I lost track of where its stopping made sense

Hard decision making cause there thrice in my head

I don’t, don’t even see her now

I don’t even know where she went,...

But I still go on dancing and do

what she did then

There’s one over there

She’ll have a chance

Unless of course we dance

Re: dancing with a poet

MAGIC DANCE

Alone I sat as a kind of trance
Enveloped me as I watched you dance
Your shoes skimmed softly everywhere
Through gossamers I glimpsed your bare
Ly clothed derriere, as fleet of foot
Your undulations spoke about your roots
I’d never seen a girl so lithe,
About, I’d say, a fairy’s size!
From whence you came
I never knew
Or where you went
When the dance was through
Somehow you seemed a part of me
So I’ve now studied how to dance
And I it here nightly in my best pants.
I bought this bar and the dance floor too,
Just on the chance that you’ll come through,
And I’ll get my chance to dance with you.

cool hmm cool hmm cool hmm

Re: dancing with a poet

too afraid to dance
I cling against the wall
afraid that if I tried
i'd surely trip and fall
a dandelion of a wall flower
I am truly just a weed
my color is bright yellow
cause I act so cowardly
I prefer to dance with poets
for its words that I can spin
I slowly take the letters
and choreograph them in
as they move without effort
and dance across the page
they form the words of rhyme
a well perfomed ballet
to move in perfect rhythm
to the music of my heart
just like the dance of motion
it truly is an art
so to those who read these words
may I have this dance
i'll lead you 'cross the dance floor
come and take my hand

Re: dancing with a poet - a laydbak1 dance number

I’m About To Love You
Slow, R&B

I’ve been watchin’ you across the room
As the line to you just grew and grew
And, when the last one fell I knew
It was finally time to make my move

I saw you see me walkin’ your way
Your little glances had a lot to say
I was thinkin’ while the music played
The only words I wanted to say

I’m about to love you
Oh, baby, with all I can do
I ain’t here for just one dance
And, this is not about a quick romance
I’m about to love you
Oh, baby, with all I can do
Here in my arms I’ll hold you
And, make all your dreams come true
I’m about to love you

We all know it’s a real bad bet
Chancin’ love in a place like this
Love’s a long-shot that never hits
Where long-neck fun is all you get

So, I could tell you were glad I came
I only smiled and asked your name
You knew it was not the same ol’ game
I’m only here for just one thing

I’m about to love you
Oh, baby, with all I can do
I ain’t here for just one dance
And, this is not about a quick romance
I’m about to love you
Oh, baby, with all I can do
Here in my arms I’ll hold you
And, make all your dreams come true
I’m about to love you

Yea, I’ve been waitin’ all night long
Bidin’ my time, song after song
When all those guys were said and done
I’m the one who’s takin’ you home

I’m about to love you
Oh, baby, with all I can do
I ain’t here for just one dance
And, this is not about a quick romance
I’m about to love you
Oh, baby, with all I can do
Here in my arms I’ll hold you
And, make all your dreams come true
I’m about to love you
Yes, I’m about to love you
I only want, to l-o-v-e, youuuuuu

Re: dancing with a poet

Having to follow laydbak1 is never easy lol but here goes.

May I have this dance?

I don't want to get into your pants
but with you I want to dance
in your mind your heart and your soul
having that affect on you is my goal

to get you in my embrace
with the dim lights hitting your face
racing will be our hearts
tonight is not about privte parts

twirling you around without a care
hoping to leave an impression that has you gasping for air
rubbing your eyes to make sure this is real
your smile and touch went along way on how I feel

a one night stand just won't do
because if I don't see you again I'd be blue
enchanting and captivating you are
instead of walking when this night ends may I dance you to your car

Re: dancing with a poet- laydbak1

Moonlight Dance
Moderate

I wanna hold you in my arms, ‘til the beat of your heart
Becomes just like mine, in the moonlight of the dark
The touch of your breath, as it lays on my skin
The stars in your eyes, and the music begins

For a moonlight dance, just you and me
Taste a cosmic romance, on a midnight breeze
Circle, turn, and twirl, like it won’t ever end
In a love dance for hours, til the daylight begins

The first time we met, I felt something there
I knew deep inside, that you really cared
I don’t wanna change, who you are after all
But, I just can’t promise, in love we won’t fall

Let’s do a moonlight dance, just you and me
Taste a cosmic romance, on a midnight breeze
Circle, turn, and twirl, like it won’t ever end
In a love dance for hours, ‘til the daylight begins

Well, they think I’m crazy, and maybe they’re right
But, they don’t keep me warm, on a cold lonely night
They don’t pick me up or, hold me when I cry
Or, make my heart dance, like that look in your eye

Let’s do a moonlight dance, just you and me
Taste a cosmic romance, on a midnight breeze
Circle, turn, and twirl, like it won’t ever end
In a love dance for hours, ‘til the daylight begins

Our worlds are so different, and life ain’t that fair
But, it’s high time we risk it, on this one lovin’ dare
For once don’t hold back, let’s shoot for romance
Give it all that we got, this may be our last chance

For a moonlight dance, just you and me
Taste a cosmic romance, on a midnight breeze
Circle, turn, and twirl, like it won’t ever end
In a love dance for hours, ‘til the daylight begins

When love comes callin’ at our heart’s front door
If we don’t let it in, it may not come any more
We gotta live love, like it won’t hurt to try
And, when the sun goes down, with noone around
In the heavens on high, all the stars fill the sky

We’ll do a moonlight dance, just you and me
Taste a cosmic romance, on a midnight breeze
Circle, turn, and twirl, like it won’t ever end
In a love dance for hours, ‘til the daylight begins

Circle, turn, and twirl, like it won’t ever end
In a love dance for hours, ‘til the daylight begins

Let’s dance…

Re: dancing with a poet

Playful
Frolic slow and taste the flavor of you on my skin
A dangerous embrace
Tempts to melt you into my arms
But my words are locked within a chorus
Soft whimsy
Whispered courting to the canarous gods
And you have seduced me with your eyes and shallow breath

Silent in motion
A supple ruffle of fingers
Daring to explore daring places
Hidden away beneath the silky black of your dress
And the second skin of sweat upon your thighs
Rolling, turning
Spinning, yearning
The carnal drums obey
But we are the slaves
My only voice, a smile
A wealth of words unspoken
Your eyes wide with understanding

Your body nestled into mine
I feel your heart release a rhythm
A beat that I must cater to
And we stand still as the world revolves around us
Pirouetting on a phantom hinge
To turn us into stars
The centerpiece of a playground of seduction
All with just a simple twitch of our feet

Re: dancing with a poet

A Dance With a Poet

Dance halls, just like water holes
Are where wild life comes to drink.

While others show up to show off
A poet comes to think.

My feet know how to levitate,
If her’s would just bring closure

She came in lycra denim shealth
Because it’s all about exposure

Leaving her soft curves to slowly jiggle
While the supple simply burns

I had chosen leather, not because of Fonzi
But so heads will always turn.

And my denim’s not so very tight,
There’ll be stretching by and by.

Wandering eyes, poor fool’s paradise
She waits for those, who’ll slowly drink hers dry.

I catch her gaze, then look away
My nod stealing the door just before her.

And so I turn, deaf to the music
Some bubblegum sound, too saccharin for her.

I reach the door and then I slow
She must have seen and watched me go

And if she didn’t follow after
Her dance was nought for me.

I never turn around, but sense
Warm jasmine’s near proximity.

I hear her little tripped steps hurry
Hot damn, the goal’s completed

Past rows of gleaming steel-
Clad moonbeam parlors, all defeated.

I reach my steed, and light’r up
The extra helmet’s hers.

“Strap it on,” I deadpan baritone
As her half smile slowly curves

While imagining some soon hard driving beat
Ah! This tingle should turn up some fun...

She lifts a leg to climb aboard
This private poets’ dance begun.

Megaphones’ testosterone jets
Propel her heels’ light levitation.

Dark sky tilts at each new curve
And sirens sing out on undulation.

This motormusic quite sets on fire
Hearts’ bound hellbound to taste all that’s free

While I’ve got all the rest that's her,
And she’s simply, got the best of me.

Night riding has its risks
But adreneline isn’t one.

That’s forgone, as blurry “ton”
Hints we’re headlong to oblivion.

“She’s placed her life in mine,” I think...
While we both clung to lighting skies,

It was only then, I slowed to drink
All the sweet wine in her eyes.

cool smile

Re: dancing with a poet

worlds collide

his eyes devour my movement
from across the crowded room
he's denying the compulsion
that he knows will be his doom

he struggles with temptation
though he hasn't got a chance
his surrender is inevitable
but then we dance

a stranger keeps a lonely watch
enchanted by flash of skin
the lithe and supple shape of me
stirs longing deep within

enraptured by undulations
that throb in time to the beat
bespelled by magic dance
feels impassioned burning heat

in the silence of the music's pause
a hand stretched in invitation
a slow dance with a gentle man
seeking inspiration

he guides the graceful sweeping steps
and sets a kinder pace
romancing me with waltzed restraint
and desire writ on his face

the room is filled with whispered sounds
as the musicians stop to rest
I claim an empty bar stool
while my eyes take up their quest

eye's like embers meet their match
and flare with hot desire
a wordless understanding
called the silent dance of fire

the band, renewed, begins a tune
and I feel a cooler gaze
assessing if the time is right
to finally make his play

as we dance he whispers
every word I say is true
more than dance or quick romance
I'm about to love you

my hand slides a long goodbye
as the song is winding down
and is quickly claimed by the next in line
a legend of great renown

he's captivated and entranced
as together we breathlessly twirl
he'll deny his raging need
to try to win this girl

and when our dance is at an end
he'll tempt me to end this night
but still another waits his turn
for a dance in soft moonlight

as I accept in gratitude
I hear ferrari in words of prose
where he thinks he's taking me
I'm sure God only knows

I'm up for a drive by now
to rest my tired feet
and adrenaline I do confess
always gets the best of me

but faster than that ferrari goes
his hands try to make free
and I don't dance the way he wants
so I'm stuck on an empty street

wistfully I wander when a hero happens by
on an amazing two-wheel steed
he tells me strap the helmet on
then makes me taste his speed

returned late to my favored place
smiling thank you for the ride
impulsive turn for one last look
with sweet wine in my eyes

as I enter in the dance hall
I see the lights are dimmed
the band is long departed
no dancers left within

in the center of the dance floor
alone I slowly turn
shuttered eyes imagining
the one who'll make me burn

the silence breaks upon the sound
of a footstep on the floor
a quiet voice is asking
if I'd like to dance some more

behind closed eyes I'm dreaming
as firm hands caress smooth skin
and playful lips plant kisses
up my neck, and down again

fabric mutely whispers
as I melt in your embrace
a shallow breath acknowledges
matched longing in your face

awe-struck wondering eyes meet
to speak the danger of desire
unspoken words that echo
but will never quench this fire

let the darkened dance floor witness
our surrender to temptation
the taste of you upon my mouth
love's truest conversation

soundlessly we're moving
to a rhythm we both crave
and though there is no music
still we are it's slave

through beams of shining starlight
we're a dance of perfect grace
the pulse of life now harmonized
your arms my safest place

a private world of stillness
while inside our worlds collide
you've renamed me your Beloved
and it cannot be denied

I can break dance, Legs a little crazy
Women here, seem a little hazy
House me up if ya aint to poeticly lazy.

Surround me like a helicopter
I know how to turn those frowns upside down
I'll turn this club into a Gothic Hoe Down

Always grabbing my pen to flex me
Dj play some Ice T and the Glove
Let me show'em, how to sling some love

Drinks are on Pac

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
