RE: The History Of Original Poetry's First Two Years.Wow... It sounds like you've been doing your homework John! Way to go. With that kind of dedication we might be able to pull it off.... |

OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI'm breaking off the Magazine talk from the history thread into this one. You can all discuss it here. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlingerawesome idea!!! You have my support 110%, anything I can do to help make it happen or help promote the idea let me know. I would forsure be one of the first to sign up! Angel- POB for life! aka A blind man walking... |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & Danomy voice is gonna be pret-ty expensive ... haha! ... |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoWord slinger I'm behind you 100% with this idea. Please do not get discouraged and lose focus on it no matter what. There is much fresh innovations needed here just as you have proposed. As a writer you have to take your future in your own hands and do not depend on a sole individual or website to do that for you. Please keep in touch. My book on poetry will be published early next year. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoOK... If you go to magcloud and browse the site and follow the link for "literary and writing" magazines, top billing goes to Instigatorzine. However, they are only in their 5th copy, so who knows if they are profitable yet. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoAdd my name to the 10 required to move on with WordSlingers idea. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI would love to see Teardrop, Dahlusion, and Madelynn's poetry in a magazine. I would pay $3 at the very least, and $5 at the most. Maybe $7 if the magazine was spectacularly awesome. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoThis is such an exciting idea and I am thrilled to see it being thought out so well! This is a magazine I would look forward to receiving every month definitely. I know that at $20 for a year subscription it would be such a steal that I could encourage several friends to subscribe, but I personally would be willing to go even as high as $35 or 40, simply because I already know it will have excellent content. The cd idea was really exciting for me, too, but I wonder how cost-effective that would be? And who would do the readings? I know as an author I have heard others read my work and they usually have a different spin on it than I did in my head and end up accenting differently and such. Just a thought. I don't know if the poets will be able (logistically speaking) to each read their own, or if some might shy away because they don't like their voice, etc. That aspect seems tricky, but could potentially be quite an endorsement for the zine. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI love your idea! I would definitely subscribe and would love to be a part of it in any capacity I can. I really don't know if any of these ideas for getting started would suit you at all, but I hope that you find a little something that might help....if not...just consider it me doing what I do best...ramble...lol |

RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoJohn, |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI am thinking that you have put together all the necessary parameters. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & Danoweel personally i love the idea of havig our own magz. I wouldnt really know how to order it, so maybe if we subscribed? all of that would depend on how often the mag is sent out. I vote for having at least one teen poet used in the magz, along with Teardrop and ManOnTheMoon. and me... :D i vote me lol. Go for it Wordslinger. whatever you come up with will be great. |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI think it is a great idea. At best, It could definitely sell for about 7 bucks (more or less depending on the state you live in and the local costs to the small businesses to procure it for the readers.) |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoLooks like the necessary interest is there, for sure I'm so happy to see the excitement building! Dano and I can definitely be added to the list of subscribers and volunteers. WS, you know that Dan and I are both down for whatever you need. He's a freakin' genius when it comes to layout and design work... has been doing that kind of thing on flyers and postcards for Abyss Records for years. And I'm pretty good at research and can be pretty persuasive when necessary. Let's do this! |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & Danoi think in all actually this is a big venture to try to pull off... i do believe that we can do it with proper organization and ambition which there seems to be no shortage of... we might look into hiring a publisist... someone who can network across the country and tie everything together for us to bring avertisers and a person who might already have ties to larger outlets for retail distribution through store such as barnes and noble... borders books ect... we all have inependent book retailers in our areas that are very approchable on a personal level that we can talk to and try to place product in thier store... however many small businesses in my experience like to sell things on consignment so that they are not put into a position of stocking prouct that dosent move and risk losing upfront money... we may approach this from the that level first... the independents... in order to attempt to build a foundation... start small and all you can do is get bigger... but if we start too big it we struggle to maintain that level... everything has a natural growth pattern... just look at op... we need to set goals for this project and allow natural progression to help guide the growth |
RE: RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI think a Teen Corner is a great idea - there's alot of young, very talented writers on our site - Bring Me Bullets comes to mind, among many other - I can list 'em if you want!! Quote:

RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoThe suggestions and proposals , all sound thinking , from folks who " klnow their onions" are feasible, but mind-boggling. The bottom line is to streamline the road to be taken ,and to start small and on a firm footing. Last edited by cousinsoren 10-17-2010 at 07:29:35 AM |

RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoA two man team can travel to the Poets that get interviewed, photgraphed, and recorded in one visit; the session in the Poets domain, or a place he or she wants to do this. With a good digital camera, and laptop with recording tools, this can be done, and files can be sent to Head Quarters that day... Last edited by WordSlinger 10-16-2010 at 02:34:41 PM |

RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoI used to be a member of clan MacNeil. a Scottish clan and we went to the games in many different states every year......Our clan put out a monthly magazine that went to all members of the clan who had paid there dues......Our magazine was ranked #1 for many years and is still the number one clan magazine..(and that is #1 out of over 240 different Scottish clans represented at the highland games, which the largest one is help at Grandfather Mountain NC.)....it featured information about different members, posted highlights from each game help across the US with pictures and all.....plus kept up with current info on the president of the clan who lived in Scotland on the isle of bara.........the editor of the magazine was a middle school librarian...........I think a magazine would be great for op.......we could post highlight of poetry that is well liked and do a page for each contest winner.....upcoming events or whatever........I am sure we could knock some ideas around and come up with a good one.........love asha Last edited by ApaqRasgirl 10-16-2010 at 03:03:03 PM |

RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoWell one idea i have for getting the interviews from the members you want for the magazine is to have whomever is going to do them, come to that states chapter meeting, that way you could catch all if not most of any one states members at one time and get interviews with them all.....it would save time and travel expense money trying to go to members homes.........the glitch would be making sure that each states chapter meeting were not held on the same weekend as other states meetings......A long term schedule could be worked out to prevent two or more chapters meeting at the same time............love asha |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & DanoYou can count me in as one of the 10 OP members you need to read.......lol.....I was told the last time I read one of my poems to a crowd of people that I did very well, of couse if was at a funeral, but the compliment came from a retired school teacher.............lol..........loves ya asha |
RE: OP Magazine Talk by WordSlinger & Danowe also need someone who can edit and submit the pictures for the magazine....that one I know I could do......the state chapter groups could send me the pictures from there meetings and I can edit them and have the magazine editors decide which pictures they want to use in the magazine........I used to take pictures for the Clan MacNeil magazine and send them to the magazine editor and many of my photos where featured in the issues............asha |
Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
