From A Prodigal Son
I remember when you held mewhen I was very small.
Your big hands reached and lifted me
I weighed nothing much at all.
You were the second person in my life
from where my comfort came.
A gift from pride you gave me
A badge with your last name.
You served our country loyally
through peace and utter strife.
Yet still came home to family
to waiting kids and wife.
You were a real life hero
than the cartoons on TV.
I really had no doubt at all
How brave that you could be.
You’ve taught me true values
For good times and for bad.
I feel the greatest honor
You chose to be my Dad.
