    Getting High

As I lay across my old, but steady bed.
A icicle dangling froom my window ledge.
    Sweat pouring from my head.
Dripping onto the miror beside my bed.
I can see something flying across my eyes with amazing speed.
Lower and lower it began to fly.
I close my eyes and began to cy.
    Suddenly the buzzing noise stopped.
I opened my eyes and to my suprise it was a fly.
But just not a fly, it was three feet tall, wore sunglasses and said his name was Paul.
    Yes he could speak.
I was so amazed when he asked fo a beer or something with a sugar glaze.
We discussed many things welfare, forein aide, and things of that such, but soon Paul said he had to buzz.
    I asked why,
and he said he had to visit other guys,
    that loved getting high.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
