Guardian

You are my savior,
a soul that lends
a helping hand-
you're my only amends.
You were there for me
when no one else cared.
Through the tears i shed
of hopelessness and despair.
You are an angel, sent
from heaven, no doubt.
Also a mystery...
Why can't I figure you out?
Why did you put up with me
through the years?
You helped me forget
my unnecessary fears.
You have off and bad moments,
then again, we all do.
I'll be eternally grateful
that, to me, God sent you.
My savior, my guidance,
my only amends.
I'll always love you because
you are my Best Friend.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
