Have Some Fun Today

Have Some Fun Today

In my bed I do lay
Thinking how to spend my day
The birds are singing outside my door
As I walk across the floor
I gaze outside to see
The Blue Mountains reflecting back at me
I want to go out and have some fun
Only when my work is done

I heard a voice inside me say
Go out and sing, play and dance
This may be your last chance
You never know what life may bring
But for a whisper it will ring
Go out, and have some fun today

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
