Here is Pain There is Love
When I was born, you were there. When I spoke my first words, you were there.
When my heart stopped beating, you were there.
When we moved to Wisconsin, you were there.
When I learned how to ride a bike, and fell off,
you were there to pick me up and dry my tears.
When I went off to my first day of kindergarten,
you were there to tell me that everything was going to be ok.
When you got sick for the first time,
I was there returning the favor.
When mama got sick, you were there,
with a hug and telling me "I love you."
When grandma got sick, you were there,
again with a hug.
When I was Baptized, you were there,
even though when I asked you to come,
you said no, and even though no one knew,
you were there for me.
When my best friend moved away, you were there,
telling me "it's okay, you'll see her again.
When grandma died, you were there.
When mama was lokkin' death in the eye, you were there,
again with your arms spread open, with tears in your eyes.
When you got sick again, I was there,
telling you that it was okay, not because I knew you were well
but because I knew you were strong,
simply because that is what you taught me to be.
When you died, I was there again,
and even though they told me not to cry, I did anyway...
not because I missed you but because I knew
you were in a better place than I.
I was suppose to tell you "Good-bye Sir,"
but instead I said,
"Sir, I will see you again and even if I don't know when,
I know that even if we don't meet here nor there,
we will meet again, in the air.
When I die, I want you there again, with your arms spread open,
and telling me that Heaven is great and you met Jesus face to face.
But before I die, one question have I.
I want to know what is it like to sit around
that beautiful throne with all of God's people,
singing His praises for ever and ever
in a robe of spotless white?
