    High School

Closed in from the world outside
I look everywhere but all I find
    Is longer hallways, more doors
Leading to my death, my own defeat
    I'm trapped
    I can't get out
    I'm stuck here forever
    I don't know where I'm at
    The room's getting taller
    But I'm being boxed in
    And I'm growing smaller
    I'm bursting within
    This feeling's so terrible
    I can't break loose
    I feel at the edge
    Dangling from a noose
Then, as soon as I'd felt it
    The feeling goes away
The bell sounds at the end of the day
    "Let's go home!"
    I hear all around me
    The doors are opened
    I can go free!
    The bell's ring
    Makes my heart sing
    I'm no longer dying
I breath in the fresh air
    Of the outside world
The air inside was suffocating me more and more
    I was free to live--
Until tomorrow, when it begins again.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
