Honouring my father

Honouring my father

When you wake
I know.
When you eat
I smell it.
When you fight
I'm there beside you.
When you belch
I'm there to rival yours.
When you cry
I'm there to stand by your side.
When you hurt
I hurt.
When you sleep
I rest easily.
When you die
I'll go on living...

When life is so unfair
I don't know what to do.
When life gives me hope
I think of you.
When time flies and wedding bells are ringing
I'll imagine you there, giving me away.
When I have kids
I'll honour you even more.
When I die,
I'll see you father.

For all the times we've shared...
The moments...
The memories...
The fish...
The lives...
For when we had everything and nothing at all....
I love you and always will.

Rest In Peace Dad.
I'll be there in time.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
