Poem Commentary

This is still not really poetry, but again, It's my style, so just bare with me for a while. I'm doing the best I can.

Hourglass (Sands of Time)

Lying beneath a crimson sky turning to grey, the sands of time slowly vanish as the cold winds blow across the earth. Memories fade like shadows until nothing remains except a longing for ages gone by. Time runs out, it never waits to pass through the spirit, marches on and on and on, further forward, even after its sands run out. The mind slowly slips away as it waits for time's curse to be lifted off the soul, but time still marches further forward, the sands draining through the heart, so hollow and empty, cursed forever by the hourglass of life. Minutes pass with each blink, seconds pass with each grain of sand, moments pass by as a flash right before the eyes. Each day is a gift, each month is a blessing, every year is a countdown to the end of the sand's draining. Time moves further still, forward even after the last grain of sand passes through the spirit like a lightning strike. Further forward.  Even after the best things happen, they are just sands spilled from the hourglass that can never be regained, lost forever in the deepest parts of the mind. Further forward, after the young heart grows to be a decaying spirit. Further forward, after the final heartbeat, after the last grain of sand spills out into the cold winds, blowing with them forever. Further forward, after the dying breath, after the sands of time have almost vanished. They are going, going, going, and gone...

I agree Time still moves Forward but I believe I am going to a place where Time cannot touch me :)

Even though it may not seem that way, that is the precise point that I am trying to make with this writing. Time does move Forward, forever, and everybody is scared of it, because nobody knows for sure when their sands are going to run out, yet still people wait and wait and wait on their time and hope that it will never be able to affect them anymore. What people don't realize is as long as they're alive, time itself will never wait for them, which is why they need to get out and make something before it's too late, before their metaphorical hourglass' sands run out and they won't have anything left but hopefully an impact on the world that they once lived in. Basically, the gist of the whole thing is even after a single person's time does run out, Time still affects everything and everyone else, but we will all eventually reach a point when Time will not be able to reach us anymore, but until that day, we need to go out and make our impact, and if we manage to impact at least one person before the sands are depleted, then whatever time we were granted in our lives was 100% successful.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
