Poem Commentary

It's still not really a poem, but I will get better at it. If you have anything to say, or any way that I can make my poems better then feel free to comment. I would love to have your opinions.

Life is Death

Torn between two veils, life, once held onto so tightly, slips away. Fueled by hatred and pain, the walls of silence surround what little love that is felt on the heart of darkness. Marked by blood, the hand that once healed broken wounds is cut by the scythe of deception once again as arrows pierce through the walls of death. Haze fogs the life of confusion, but the clouds themselves create a safe home for the minds of the confused ones. But soon enough, the sky crumbles and the clouds fall away as the blackened spirits leave broken pieces of their minds behind. Strangers to light leaving pieces of stone found only by the ones who once lived a worthless life with hearts filled with nothing. With ruthless cries, the only things left are endless lies and broken glass. Blinded eyes still do not see, and the end is almost nigh. Drifting further into the Valley of Souls, decaying spirits turn to dust, closing the wounds inflicted upon the evil spirit. The pain becomes a longing for an age passed and it's too late to rectify what was done. The road ends here, and the matured mind is still far from home, but the evil within still exists, so the soul is never free from its imprisonment within it's own darkness. With a final breath, apologetic words are heard; "If only more time existed, maybe more lives would be saved from this evil." Everything fades away at last, leaving nothing behind but life.

Very sad, Jinsei...but I have a more optimistic view. I believe Death is Life for me because I have a new life in Jesus. I believe He will give me that new life you were talking about. He offers a new life..one free from deception, pain and decaying spirits. :)

As sad as this sounds, it's not meant to sound pessimistic. As a matter of fact, it's more of a philosophical view of what life is. Life is Death, and Death is Life. You can't have one without the other, therefore everybody dies eventually. The entire poem itself is a metaphor for what life truly is. There are good times, and bad times, love, hatred, pain, confusion, memories. We all have Light and Dark inside of us, and sometimes the temptation to embrace the wrong side will grow strong, sometimes strong enough to carry out your dark, evil deeds. But for every action, there is a reaction, even if it means good for other people, still it could mean bad for you, in other words, even if you choose to inflict the world with Love and Peace, still your heart may not be satisfied. For example, I try to help out anybody who has a problem, I try to be there for anybody whenever they need it. Although I seem to give them comfort, I receive nothing in return. Sometimes that makes me grow angry, but why should it matter? My ambitions are to give and not receive, however, my mind is telling me otherwise. Most of the time I try to listen to my heart, because just knowing that my friends are safe, that I helped somebody who was in pain, the feeling is amazing. As for the mind part, everybody thinks evil things. We are all tempted to do things that we may regret in the future. In the end, everybody wishes they had more time, that they did more, that they didn't do the things that they were tempted to, there always seems to be a lot of remorse. If they could only have lived for another day... if only they could go back... they would say, "I'm sorry." And then..... in the end, they die.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
