Hurting Desire

Departure, leaving you,
Knowing I've put an end
to something good.
Regretting leaving you
Seeing your ghost still there
Where you once stood…

 My racing thoughts spin to
Memories of the past,
Fading away.
Moments in time with you
Are history, gone their own way.

 Lamenting, grieving for you
Wondering how you fare,
It’s been so long….
Yearning to speak with you,
Desiring your happiness,
Wishing you well.

 I will always love you
The essence of who you are,
The thought of you.
When I returned your heart
I left you a piece of mine
You still possess.

 Confused by grief and gloom
I walk this road in misery
Give me a sign.
Absorbed by a sad tune
I want to know how you do,
Wishing you’d still be mine.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
