I Am A Human Being

Poem Commentary

This is a poem very close to my heart, I've read it at many a poetry venue. The parts about prison and freedom are two of the most important factors in it for me. I've never been behind bars- but I've felt trapped inside my body sometimes. I have Tourette Syndrome, and other neurological disorders that affect the way I move and act.

I Am A Human Being

I am a cry unto the night,
my tears I hide from day,
I am the shadow, I am the light,
And I steal myself away.

Curse me, bless me,
It's all the same,
I am here,
My soul I'll remain.

I am my freedom,
And my jailor,
I am the ship,
And I am the sailor.

Temple, prison,
Hard and home,
I am all the things
I have ever known.

I am all things possible,
And impossible, I see,
For I am simply...
Me.

Very nice. I like the message and the use of first person throughout. Flows nicely and has a good cadence to in. The message is very metaphoric and thought prvoking. I like your style so far Ms Simpson. Great job. Welcome to OP. My name is Kevin.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
