I Am...I Said
I Am I Said
I hate
Having been told
All my faults
While growing up
Physical shortcomings
As if I could change anything
Never quite measuring up
In performance
My impatience now has
Underlying currents of anger
Stemming from conversations over the years
Hitting the triggers
Of memory
Vivid memories of those
Fault-finding tirades
I hate disappointments
Especially in people
What they do and say
Promises they do not keep
I am not ugly
I am not lazy
I am not shallow
I am not self-centered
I will not enable
Another human being to use me
I do not want to use any other person
I will try to keep
My promises
I am
I said
I hate
Having been told
All my faults
While growing up
Physical shortcomings
As if I could change anything
Never quite measuring up
In performance
My impatience now has
Underlying currents of anger
Stemming from conversations over the years
Hitting the triggers
Of memory
Vivid memories of those
Fault-finding tirades
I hate disappointments
Especially in people
What they do and say
Promises they do not keep
I am not ugly
I am not lazy
I am not shallow
I am not self-centered
I will not enable
Another human being to use me
I do not want to use any other person
I will try to keep
My promises
I am
I said
