    I Knew Her Well

She was the one I dreamed of while crying
I thought it helped to ease the pain,
But there was no such thing as easement
Not in this wretched lost soul a-dying

She waved as she sailed out of sight
Wearing a silken adornment o'er her brow
Throwing kisses, as if to mean she cared.
Not her, not this beguiling thing of night

I waved too as she sank out of view
And smiled with the thought of forever
without her, could be the best for me
For now, I was soon to be with love anew.
Forgive me love for smiling while you
drift out of my life and rest upon those
ever-longing heart beats of love no more.

This is poetry!! The music of words written, weaving a story of melodious melancholy. It also has a resolve of ending anguish to begin a joy expectant future. (those are always the best futures) Thanks for the excursion from the dock and back again. Marck

The imagery offered is exquisite. The passion shared is unique. I love the way in which you manage to maintain the level of interest throughout the entire poem. This is a great write.

Dear Mr. Leatherman, I like this ... very much. I only wish the comments to my left were blocked. They are a distraction to me ... Luna

This is an O.K. write, not a really good write or a great write, simply O.K. It is a story that has been told and retold using the same language, imagery, and poetic illustrations time and time again. I would consider this a first-draft in need of throwing out some of the cliche/pedestrian/overly worked lines, and dig deeper into my creative well before calling it a night. Just my thoughts, but, who am I to have thoughts on whose poetry is good or bad, or even worth keeping? i mean, who am I to say anything, cause my poetry is so ordinary.

Thanks dah, I'll have to check into some of your poetry and see if I can get some helpful hints.....geo

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
