    I Loved You

    I loved you,
    But I loved you peacefully
    So you didn’t notice.

In the emptyness of night I called you
    But you didn’t hear me
For my call was only a whisper.

I reached out and touched you
    But you didn’t feel it
For to you I was only a ghost.

Where ever you went I followed
But you didn’t bother turning around
For you seemed to think that,

    I was only your shadow.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
