Insignia

I need someone

Who’ll wear my love like a band

Not on the finger of any hand

But on her forehead like the Shotokan

She’ll wear it as a necklace

Bold, beautiful & fair

Like the silver brooch

In her windblown hair

It’ll sing around her feet

Anklets of gold so clear

And whisper words of my heart

From the diamond earrings in her ear

Giving her strength of the eagles

The bracelets of virtue on her hands

And the wisdom of the ravens

Woven into the bells on her hair strands

On her neck like a silk scarf

It’ll always keep her warm

And like the finest Mithril armor

My love will absorb any harm

Slippers of perfect crystal

Lifting her above life’s cares

Exalted above all else

Like the jeweled tiara on her head

I’ve found someone

Who wears my love proudly

Like her exquisite garment of sand

Just as I wear hers, forever

On the third finger of my left hand

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
