Invisible Scars

I try so so hard,
But you wont let me forget,
And thats all I want,
To forget you and all you are.

I need you like I need to breathe,
But you're strangling the life out of me,
Fingers pressed to flesh,
Violence etched into my skin.

So I run, I run
From you and from myself,
Breaking the mirror,
That reflects the pain inside.

I breathe as deeply as I can,
My lungs burning like my love for you.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
