jealousy

jealousy

It's starts as a simple thought

and spreads like a wildfire

engulfing happy memories

burning them to ashes

Heated words spew from my mouth

like boiling water out of a cauldron

evaporating the tenderness of my soul

leaving behind dark emptiness

The feeling subsides in my heart

where it brews and flows

like a river of magma

waiting to erupt again

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
