    Learning to stand again

    05/01/2009
Why do I always wear my heart on my sleeve?
Why do I always jump to conclusions?
Why do I always cry when you leave?
Why must I give you my heart?
What do I get in return?
After all I know you’re gonna just rip it apart.
I can’t take it anymore, so leave my shattered heart on the ground.
When you finally go make sure it’s for good.
Don’t look back, don’t you dare turn around.
Let me move on and get on with my life, and mend my broken heart.
It’s gonna take time and this I know.
But I’d rather not have you, than to have my dreams ripped apart.
The door is unlocked, and it’s waiting for you to go.
I no longer want you, no longer need you.
Tired of feeling this way, tired of crying myself to sleep.
I’m better than what you put me through.
I’m gonna stand on my own two feet.
I’m gonna start believing in myself.
And no longer am I gonna be a punching bag for you to beat!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
