Look At Me!!!!!
Look at me! Tell me, what do you see?
The one I tried so hard to be?
Or do you look right past my eyes,
Avoiding, once again, my silent cries.
Can you see what I am inside?
Or has that flicker of love truly died?
You answer not, no words do I hear
My heart beats harder, it is as I fear.
I came to you in my hour of need,
I wanted only for my hurt to be freed.
Look at me, tell me, do you still love me?
But only silence was returned to my plea.
The tears now roll down my pale face
For I know, in your heart I have no place.
That heart you once promised belonged to me,
Has been given to another and so it must be.
My knees now feel weak and my insides are trembling,
I look down at my hand, and slowly take off my ring.
I remember the day when we were joined and two became one
How could you, alone, decide when “we” were done?
Look at me! Tell me, NOW what do you see?
A broken heart? a scarred soul? NO, this is not me.
I am like the Phoenix, and I will once again find love,
Because, you see, I believe in the power above.
Though you may not want who I am and all I can be
I know I will find another that WILL love me.
My heart is an old, genuine and warm one
And I know that my life is not yet done.
Look at me! Tell me, now do you see?
The depth and the character that comprises me?
I have loved from deep within my heart,
Perhaps it is, indeed, best we part.
Look at me! Tell me, what is it that you now see?
It is just a heart full of love that you have set free.
