Love Can Hurt

Poem Commentary

Just having one heck of a lonely day!

Love Can Hurt

Love can slice you like a knife.
It can hurt you, harm you, nuke your life.
No one talks about this side of Love;
The iron fist inside a glove.
Love can make you lonely and sad,
Love rejects, and that hurts bad.
Love can end just when you love the most,
It walks away and leaves just a ghost
Of what you had and wanted so.
Love can come; Love can go.

What's real love, the kind that stays?
Despite ups and downs and real bad days?
I see it from afar, and I want to know:
How can I find it, and let old love go?

I thought I knew what love was true:
I thought it was fair.Safe.Forever new.
But like the song, love can hurt
It can condemn and snarl and be curt.
Oh, help me , please, to know love true!
Describe its ways, tell me what to do.
For I long for love that soothes and calls!
I know only love that eventually falls.
Teach me and show me your loving mind,
And above all, show me love that is kind!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
