Lovers and Friends
You were broken down on the side of the road,
I stopped to see if I could help.
Your face lit up when your eyes met mine.
Old memories cropped up all by themselves.
Not a word was spoken as I popped your hood,
And looked to see just what I could do.
But my heart was pounding, beating ragged,
My body longed to reach out and touch you.
For once we were lovers and friends.
Our hearts were forged as one.
Laughter flowed like water down a hill,
Back in the days when we were young.
Two kids in colege away from home,
We made love like there was no tomorrow.
Under the bleachers, in the park,
In any old car that we could borrow.
But that was another world,
That was then and this is now.
We separated, went our different ways,
And traveled paths we knew nothing about.
My thoughts were running wild and free,
As I worked I thought of yesterday.
Soon I had your car running again.
You smiled your thanks and simply drove away.
I stopped to see if I could help.
Your face lit up when your eyes met mine.
Old memories cropped up all by themselves.
Not a word was spoken as I popped your hood,
And looked to see just what I could do.
But my heart was pounding, beating ragged,
My body longed to reach out and touch you.
For once we were lovers and friends.
Our hearts were forged as one.
Laughter flowed like water down a hill,
Back in the days when we were young.
Two kids in colege away from home,
We made love like there was no tomorrow.
Under the bleachers, in the park,
In any old car that we could borrow.
But that was another world,
That was then and this is now.
We separated, went our different ways,
And traveled paths we knew nothing about.
My thoughts were running wild and free,
As I worked I thought of yesterday.
Soon I had your car running again.
You smiled your thanks and simply drove away.
