    Lover's Pledge

A darkened bedroom, candles all aglow
Satin white nightgown, strap hanging low
She stands before him, so full of need
For she needs his love, hard and deep

The kisses burn on the lover’s lips
His hands pulling her in closer by her hips
Passion and desire consume their souls
Not speaking a word, but leaving nothing untold

Their bodies entangled as moans fill the room
Two souls melting into one by the light of the moon
Him diving deeper and deeper into her love
Their bodies fitting each other like a glove

The yearning and fire building deep within
The rocking and pushing close to an end
The pounding explosion that sends them both over the edge
For this is the beautiful, sacred dance of a Lover’s pledge

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
