Mom I Remember
I remember the day we were told that you had a year to live,
That you were a very sick lady. All I could say was, "Why, God?
Why my Mother? She is a mother and father to us all."
I remember the day we had to put you in the hospital.
I said, "Don't take her; she's all I've got.
She means the world to us all.
Please, God, don't take her now."
You were in the hospital lying in the bed.
You looked up at me, and this is what you said:
"Though your hearts are broken and your very soul screams 'Why?' rest assured God still loves you and he understands your cry.
Mom, I dedicate this poem to you, because I remember you fought so hard to the end. Truly God had his purpose for calling you so soon. Lord, the pain is still so real to me. Sometimes the loss seems too great to bear.
But sometimes when I feel the most alone I know that you are there.
Somehow I know that you are looking down and smiling from Heaven.
Your memory and your love will always be with us down here.
