    More Than Just Your Friend

The phone rings and I pray
that its you on the other end.
Dreams can come true, it really is you
but you say you just want to be my friend.

    The tears are hotly sliding,
    rolling slowly down my cheek.
    You can't hear my sadness,
    you don't realize it's you I seek.

I put on airs and try
    to save a little face.
I don't want you to know
how much I long for your embrace.

The love I feel for you
is like a fire burning deep inside.
I can't go on like this,
I'd at least like to keep my pride.

    If only you could realize
how good I'd be for you,
    we'd have a beautiful chance
to create a love so true.

For just one night I wish
    you could just pretend
that suddenly you loved me too
and I was more than just your friend.

Disappointment cuts like a dull knife. You portrayed the anguish adeptly, I'm on the way over with a fresh hankie.

I like this. I can relate. I'm horrible at leaving comments.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
