Permanent Rain

Permanent Rain

Bruised and broken,
the angry sky burst forth its tears
in the form of a cold, hard rain.

I saw you tonight,
just on the edges of reality,
soaking up the storm.

Now I'm afraid to close my eyes
for fear that you'll be gone
when I open them again.

There's so much left for me to tell you...
There's so much left for me to say.

I'm left to handle it all without you
while standing here in this permanent rain
and missing you like the sun on this cloudy night.

Your memory is chasing me
like the echo of my feet
on the pavement behind me.

I promised you that day...

I promised you wouldn't die
and I've been thinking of those last words we spoke.
I regret that they weren't enough.

The clouds are clearing as I sit under the starlight
with no friend but for the pale moon.

I'm thinking of my broken promise to you
and I wonder...

"Am I forgiven?"

A nice piece about unfulfilled promises, and unforgotten love. I prefer more rhythm, and rhyme. It's point is clear though, and all is forgiven in time. Good write....

I enjoyed this greatly. Solemn, but not dark. Sad, but not hopeless. Well done!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
