My Shadow

My Shadow: Drew L

Category: Writing and Poetry

He called me failure he called me waste

He reminded me of my loss

He spoke of my disgrace

I escaped his grasp running as fast as I could

I ran through the streets and into the woods

Steadily behind me he kept up the pace

Reminding me of my faults all along the way

At the bed of the river I fell to my knees

I felt as if I had been running for days even weeks

Tired and broken I sent out a plea

Please sir, please just let me be

Just to turn and realize I had been running from me

I like the deliberate tension built through the course of your poem. This is an refreshing direction with a sometimes overused theme. Very nice work.

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
