Penny
How can anyone be so selfish
As I was
During the time
My best friend was dying
At one time
All I could think about
Was what am I going to do
With you not here
To listen to me
And be with me
And love me
My heart...my heart
How it hurt
Somehow...it was you
Who comforted me
During your dying
I can only hope
When my time comes
I will be able to
Comfort those who
Will miss me
In my journey home
It has been
Five years
Since you left this earth
I still miss you
Sometimes you visit me
In my dreams
How I cherish those rare
But wonderful times
Sometimes I cry
Sometimes not
I welcome all your visits
You gave me
Twelve years of your life
I thank you from all my heart
Some would say
You were only a dog
How could they know
What love you possessed
In such a tiny body
Often I found it hard to believe
And I was the one receiving
Your great love
Penny you gave me
So very much
I know you are in Heaven
Waiting on me
I will join you one day
Until then
I want you to know
I have found two more
Friends
Not to take your place
But, because I am still selfish
And needed companionship
I can only receive
From a furry friend...
Their names are
Roy M. and Sara Grace
They are larger in size
Than you...my tiny friend
Their love for me is great
Do you visit them too?
And tell them what I like
Or share stories of old
With them
They are hunters too
My Precious Penny
I remember the squirrels
You tree'd
They do the same.
