My name is Amanda DeVore and I am 24 years old. I was raised by my mom and she was struggling to fend for me and my three other siblings. Now I am a single mother struggling to fend for my three and a half year old son. I became a mother at 20.

I went to high school at Adair High School and dropped out with only one year left. After I had my son, I went and got my GED and then looked at all of my other options. So I decided to go back to school to try to get me a better job that I can depend on and that I will be able to get everything my son needs and wants. I am trying to get my degree in Human Services Management, and then once I get my degree I am going to try to get my masters in Counseling or Psychology.

I have to deal with all of my medical problems. My doctor doesn’t even know what is wrong with me, at one time he thought that I had fibromyalgia but now he is stumped. He has described me so many medications and sometimes it does not even seem to work. I finally decided to quit taking all of the medications so that I do not get addicted to them. I was doing ok without them and now I have found out that I have a low immune system so I have been sick a lot lately. I changed doctors and I found out my lower back is out of whack. I also found out that I am a pre-diabetic so I am on a diabetic diet to see if it keeps me from having type 2 diabetes.

When I was growing up I would sit in my room and write poems and songs just for fun. Of course, the poems all told how I was feeling at that point in time. My mom realized what I was doing and she was proud of me. I do not know why I started but it has stuck with me ever since.
