They’ve often asked me why I like poetry.....what I want to say is...........................................

When I go through certain things in life and I feel you can’t talk to anyone, I write, when I discover certain things about myself and feel I can’t share it with anyone, I write. Poetry is a form of liberation, it’s like standing on top of a cliff or mountain and giving the loudest shout, releasing all your pain, your hurt, your anxiety, your unappreciated love, your feelings, your emotions- you stand there and you scream for as long as your breathe can manage, your voice can sound- you scream it all out and then when you are done, the feeling you get back is immaculate- It’s like sunshine breaking out through a stormy week, a single flower blossoming after the longest dry season, like a cool breeze blowing in heated weather- That is poetry. When I put pen to paper, I just let my words flow and like two lovers making love so my pen and paper make love and produce poetry. When people ask why I like poetry......what I want to say is......................................................................

When I look at the stars, look at the trees dancing in the day, the birds singing to the trees and surrounding plants that care to listen.....when I just stand still and take in what’s around me, the life that embraces me- I feel poetry.

When people ask me why I like poetry........what I want to say is.....

Poetry is my voice, Poetry is my thoughts, Poetry is my movements, Poetry is my life, POETRY IS ME! You read the words but hear my voice, You feel the emotions but dry my tears, You capture the joy but echo my laughter- And through all you see me and what I represent- POETRY.

But when people ask me why I like poetry........Instead of saying, I don’t just like- I AM poetry......My shyness overtakes me, my inability to communicate verbally overpowers me and I just simply shrug my shoulders and say "I don’t know" and give them one of my poems- In hope that they will find the real answer.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
