    PROTEA

There are women who change their shape
The first time you meet her she’s in necklaces
Sitting diminutive at a café table
With humble eyes and fine features
Captured in the track lights along with the art

The another day another time another life
You find her at home in her own spaces
There she looks tall long narrow – her face too
    She disappears into the bathroom
Emerging later with a resonant face
Pristine – her hair appears lighter in tone
    Her eyes brighter in color
    A cooler look

    Each metamorphosis is the cross-fade
    Of one dream into another
Each dream is one person shedding the last one
Each persona is a shimmering rain of light particles
In the process of making a new shape in protean flux

She is the human completion of quantum waves
    Emanating
