"Break The Cycle"
I come from a family that battles alcoholic tendencies
With tons of love to give if it will only let them free
I plea with all of them on a daily basis, to look at what their creating
Debating whether I should join them in this fight, or just let go
I know! How can I dodge this myself if I pick up a fifth of Cuervo
So I play dumb, like this is not my history or even where I came from
But something has to happen or my kids will finish this poem
I have to do this for em', cause it is still growin' and growin'
The men die early or live life suffering through all types of problems
What can solve them? Who knows! So I go down in prayer to call HIM!
Dear father,
Please help me out, no one seems to listen to my voice alone
I shout it to the elders and get told to let grown folks be grown
"Stay in a child's place" they say, sending me to my room to play
I hear a door close, engine start, then my mom goes to bed
So I knew he took to the streets with Satin on his breath and in his head
I wish I could have stopped him with my tears just before he left
The next morning she woke me up for breakfast, he still wasn't in
I know you said obey thy parents, so I struggle not to sin
I can listen to the sounds of tires pulling up in my driveway
Hoping he'll come in and head to bed, but instead the door bell rings
I understand he was drunk last night, but now he should be clean
So why would he not just put his key in and take all my fears away
I heard mom say, "Who is it?" The strange voice said "Police"
Here I am now, on my knees with you to tell my story
Hopefully you will be merciful in what you do to all that came before me
It happened around 2 am, when his car swerved right then hit the curve
He didn't observe that little girl crossing the street,
When his eyes got weak, and foot fell asleep, brakes never screeched
As I pray she will one day rest in peace! ("R.I.P")
So if you're reading this poem, and can see things before form
Like bullets being loaded in a hair triggered riffle
Just do what I'm doing! Pray hard and " Break The Cycle"
