    Reflections

It's a clear day The sky is blue the wind is slight
    White clouds go rolling by
Time for a walk Grass is green the wall is long
    The memories stir up songs

So many names I can't read my eyes blur
I know the section I prefer
It takes so long I memorized names I knew
    Everyplace I go to

Been a long time Yet I know as a living vet
    I know I won't forget
Come a long way It was done no fanfare
Some came home some stayed there

I've lived a life And I've tried to keep it good
A legacy of where we stood
Life ended there Memories I keep with me
The soldiers I can still see

I reach out and touch the wall
The reflections there each one big or small
There's no words I loved them all
The men I knew I still recall

I miss them each and every one
The battles fought the battles won
I will never be the same
With the reflections of each face and name in the wall

    Poignant and touching.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
