Remembering
I know he left again last night,
in the way you held on tight,
remembering your trembling touch,
one warm October morning such
a not so distant time ago,
you smiling in the after glow,
You asked me, "Why can't he do that?"
And in teasing, I replied, "Do What?"
You smiled, laughed, shook your head,
Then pushed mr playfully off the bed.
You smile and it lights my day,
I see the things you cannot say
Your eyes still show the sorrow of,
A little girl who learned that love,
Meant to hurt then to forgive,
And in this way, you learned to live.
I taste your tears on my lips,
as I gently place a kiss,
lightly on your glowing cheek,
Then whisper in your ear, "Now sleep."
Then in this fleeting cherished time,
I feel your heart keep pace with mine.
then kiss you once more tasting tears,
And wishing these were mine, not yours.
