Poem Commentary

This is the first poem I wrote in my writing workshop took over the summer.  I hated this when I first wrote it.  It felt so forced to me, but apparently the teachers for the class liked it so I ended up using it for the slam.

Sadness

Today I feel like a balloon with a pin prick
Instead of exploding I've merely deflated
All ambition comes to a stop
As the wind has escaped from my sails

I feel quite like the dead today
With no reason to carry on
And nothing to do but lie in the earth
While the living drain my old life away
