Same Old Song

    Poem Commentary

This is actually a song that was written for a film that was never released. I still believe it to be one of the best I've ever put down on paper.

    Same Old Song

    Far away across the river
They forget just who I am
I gave her all that I could give her
She took up running with another man

I went away to heal my heartache
But I made a fortune instead
The pain inside is more than I can take
I won't rest until I see him dead

It's the same old song I know
I hear it every where I go
There is only one thing left in town
My broken heart lays on the ground

A broken heart that you can't mend
So throw it away to start again
Because you can't heal what you see
And no one sees this fire
    That burns inside of me

Revenge is not my only motive
Though I admit it tops my list
But I won't blow it on some illusion
I just want to show her what she missed

It's the same old song I know
I hear it everywhere I go
There is only one thing left in town
My broken heart lays on the ground
